September 29, 2004 -- Summer is over, weve packed away beach towels, SPF 30s and swimsuits, we still feel like putting on that nice new outfit we bought this spring, but store displays now show the latest look for fall and winter. Its sad to say goodbye to long warm summer days and beautiful nights, but for some its a relief, and they praise fall. They no longer have to hide out, or spend the extra time dealing with body hair issues before venturing out into a world of revealing summer clothing. Who are these poor souls? Well, actually it could be almost any of us. Summer is the time when we all focus more on body hair, some to a greater degree than others. So what about fall and winter? Most of us relax a little bit, and save the bigger jobs, like legs and bikini lines, or for men their backs and/or chest, for that special date that might lead to something more, or perhaps the winter vacation to a warmer place. But listen up, winter is not the time to forget about hair removal. Rather its the perfect time to plan ahead for the next summer season.

Winter and fall is a good time to consider permanent, electrolysis, and semi permanent, laser, hair removal methods. Both methods require a little time. Sessions are usually spaced a few weeks apart, and how many sessions youll need depend on what area of the body and how much hair is to be treated. You also need to keep the treated area out of the sun between sessions, and right after treatment is completed, what better time to this than winter.

If youre thinking about waxing, or using rotary epilators, fall and winter is also a good time to start. This way youll get the used to it before summer, when youll have to do it more often. The hair will also grow slower and less noticeable, especially if you use a hair inhibitor right after you wax or use the epilator. A hair inhibitor (like the one from Kalo) is great in the winter. No matter what your preferred method of hair removal might be. Because in the winter you might not want to spend as much time thinking about hair removal. A hair inhibitor can help stretch time between shavings or waxing. Not necessary by making hair grow slower, but by making hair thinner and less noticeable, thus the need to shave/wax less often.

Remember in the fall and winter with skin becoming more fair, hair show more easily. Upper lip fuzz that the sun might naturally lighten in the summer turns darker and gets more noticeable. It might be a good time to either professionally or at home bleach or wax this area.
A brief overview of hair removal methods

Laser,
Filtered light is delivered from a handheld device into the skin, where it targets dark material such as the pigment in hair. It is intended to cause thermal and/or mechanical damage to a hair follicle while sparing surrounding tissues.
Some have experienced long-lasting hair removal or permanent hair reduction. Considered safe if performed properly. Re growth can come back lighter in color or finer in texture. Light-skinned people with dark hair have the best results. Youll find laser hair removal clinics all over the country. With laser hair removal becoming quite popular in big cities, Laser hair removal clinics in New York are plentiful. Just be sure to research the place you have it done. Waxing

There is hot and cold waxing. A hot wax will melt just above body temperature so it can be easily spread thinly over the skin, then a strip of cloth or paper is pressed into the wax. As it hardens the wax trap the hair so it is removed by the roots when the strip is ripped off.
Cold waxes are available in pre coated strips which can be pressed directly onto the skin. The hair sticks to the wax and is then removed with the quick pull back action. There are many manufacturers of cold and hot waxes for home and professional use. A few that are well known are: Aussie Nad's, Nair, Epilady, Gigi, Moom, Veet, Surgi wax and One Touch.
Brazilian wax is more than a bikini wax it refers to hair removal around the anus, perineum and vagina. After underwear is removed a beautician asks the client to lie down and raise the legs. Talc may be sprinkled all over the bottom, anus and vagina areas. Hot wax is then spread over all these areas and then ripped off with cotton strips. Rotary epilators

Handheld gadget with rotating tweezers that pulls the hair from the root. Great for larger areas like arms and legs. Hair needs to be at least 3mm long. Quite painful the first time, but pain lessens as you keep using it. In the beginning you might have to use the epilator every 2 weeks or so, later as hair gets finer and less noticeable less often. There are several known brands out there, like Braun, Epilady, Norelco, Grundig and Phillips. More info can be found at http://www.freewebs.com/hairremoval/index.html [Hair Removal]

Electrolysis

Permanent hair removal by sliding a thin metal probe into a hair follicle, where
Electricity then is delivered to the follicle, which causes localized damage to the areas that generate hairs. Have a long proven record of effectiveness. This method can be expensive, time consuming and sometimes painful. More info can be found at http://cgi.tripod.com/electrolysis3/cgi-bin/index.pl [Electrolysis Hair Removal]

Shaving

This is the easiest and least painful hair removal method. But as we all know you have to shave everyday. The hair gets stiffer, but its not true that shaving makes you grow more hair. You are born with a certain amount of hair follicles. Invest in a good razor and shaving cream or gel. Dont use soap as this will dry out your skin.
